Sedgefield

1 to elect
The following candidate is elected unopposed:

Wendy R Gill

Why do you want to be a Governor?
I came to live in Sedgefield October 1973. Both my children were born in North Tees Hospital and we have used the hospital facilities as needed.
I have been a Governor of the Trust for the last three years and have found it a rewarding and challenging role. I am a member of six committees including the Membership Committee, currently Chairman, and the Strategy Committee and take part in the Patient Experience and Quality Standards visits, giving me opportunity to talk to patients on the wards about their care. NHS reorganisation and the new hospital means that the role of Governor will be more challenging and I would like to be part of that.

What skills do you feel you could bring to this role?
I gained a first class honours degree in Chemistry at London University in 1965 and a PhD from Durham in 1988. 1996 – 2007 I was employed as Course Administrator and teacher on the newly formed Biomedical Sciences degree at Durham University. I taught Chemistry/Biochemistry and devised the Study Skills module, in addition to dealing with admissions, examinations and, most importantly, counselling and advising our students. Many of these went on to work as Biomedical Scientists in NHS Trusts and this stimulated my interest in becoming a Governor.

For the last 25 years I have worked as a volunteer on the Management Committee of Sedgefield Community Association. The SCA provides facilities for all age groups in the Community and gives me the opportunity find out peoples hospital experiences good and bad.
